Spoken TALES FROM KALILA WA DIMNA FOR STUDENTS OF ARABIC
by Munther A. Younes

Spoken Language Services, Inc. proudly announces publication of Tales from Kalila wa Dimna for Students of Arabic by Munther A. Younes. The work consists of a handsome text and 3 CDs, on which the author recites selected stories.

Kalila wa Dimna is a well-known Arabic literary classic collection of fables about people and animals that has long been enjoyed by Arab children and adults alike. In this illustrated rendition, Younes retells these fables in simplified language for intermediate and advanced students of Arabic. Compact Disks accompany the text to provide three hours of audio.

The materials aim to build the student's confidence with the language. The presence of a context and a story line promotes comprehension and enables students to intuit the meaning of unfamiliar words and structures.

Students and language learners will appreciate both the allegorical and literal value of the stories. They will experience an enriching, more relaxing way to increase their comprehension and speaking skills.

Munther Younes is Senior Lecturer in Arabic Language and Linguistics at Cornell University. His other publications include Elementary Arabic: An Integrated Approach and Intermediate Arabic: An Integrated Approach, both published by Yale University Press.
